Leia Alta Johnstone

Here's my little girl!!!!
I helped catch her at about 7:15am last friday (August 11th, 2006). Then I passed her up to her mother so I could cut the cord. A very intimidating experience for sure...but one I would never pass up nor will I forget. Leia weighed in at 8lbs. 1 oz. (a big baby...but not as big as her daddy!). 20.5" long makes me think she's going to be tall (she'll probably pass her mom, aunt's and grandma's at a young age...just like her dad! hahaha).

The labor went well (from my perspective)...meaning mom and baby are very healthy and happy. Kim was a tough lady, no big pain shot and hung in there pushing like a trooper for an hour and a half. Amazing, since we'd been at the hospital with little or no sleep since her water broke at 11:45 thursday night. It was hard for me to stand there and watch during most of the process. Kim's mom was there to help her focus and I was left to count the seconds during each contraction. Participating in the birth was overwhelming and I'm thankful we had a good doctor. There is a special moment when baby takes her first breath and begins to cry. Adrenaline takes over then and suddenly nothing else matters.

The picture above is of Leia sleeping off a good meal (again...like her father...heh heh). So far, so good...we'll keep everyone posted.
